Judging by the HSI (or whatever it's called in 'bus-speak), they were tracking near my hometown of Adelaide, South Australia.  I recognise Edinburgh RAAF base (YPED) & the next waypoint, MTP VOR.  Enroute Sydney-Perth I guess.

Great pic.

Guess it goes to show how far cockpit technology has advanced in the last 20 years or so.

Where will it be in another 20 years??

Great pic.

Definitely in South Australia... both nav radios are tuned to the AD (Adelaide) VOR and you can see YPED (Edinburgh) in the ND.

But where is the 767 sitting ??

Andrew

I've been trying to find out the name of that little screen in the new airbusses. What is it called and what does it do?

That little screen above the MCDU is the ACARS so that they can communicate with home base and coordinate arrival times and such.

Oh. thanks...so the ACARS is no longer accessed through the MCDU?

Dont think so on the A320.  One of the pilots should know

Also interesting in Australia, is that all airspace is controlled by either Melbourne or Brisbane, even when you are in the west.

It would be an A330 (probably a -200).

I agree with Merv, it would be Sydney-Perth (given the elapsed time of 1:33, it would unlikely be out of Melbourne, as that is only about 1:00 and Sydney more like 1:30 to Adelaide).

Maybe QF577?

Cheers,

Andy

Not exactly correct... ACARS is only accessible through the MCDU.

This Screen is used for the so called "FANS" which means "Future Air Navigation System". This system is used for text communication with the Air Traffic Control. You can read messages from the ATC on this Screen like "cleared to land on RW23R".

Bye,
Micha
